Realtors: Ranking well on Google can be a game changer for your real estate business. By showing up for valuable search queries, you can get free organic traffic, which can ultimately lead to more clients. There is a lot involved in an effective search engine marketing (SEO is a component of an SEM strategy) that goes far beyond what I have included here; however, getting the basics right is certainly a start.
In this post, I’m going to share with you three ways can easily increase your Google presence.
1. Understand what keywords are valuable and attainable
I’m literally asked daily by real estate agents who schedule a free consultation with me what would take to rank well on Google for high value, and to be honest, unrealistic keywords. An example of this would be “[your city] + real estate” — it’ll be nearly impossible to rank in the top three positions for in Google.
Zillow, Trulia, Redfin, Movoto, Realtor.com, etc., will dominate the first page of results for these types of queries — this is because they have massive websites and have made giant investments in their SEO. Hundreds of millions of dollars combined.
It’s borderline impossible to compete for these keywords; however, the fact is you don’t need to compete with the portals to be successful on Google.
Instead, you should focus on long-tail keywords and ranking for as many of them as possible. Long-tail keywords are those search terms with multiple words that are more specific — they receive less volume in search but also have less competition. So to compensate you just address more of them in your strategy.
An example of a long-tail keyword would be, “What is it like raising a family in Los Angeles?” If you can create content that answers questions like this, you’ll have a much better chance of ranking in search and getting people back to your website.
2. Learn how to edit your title tags and meta descriptions
This is basic, tried, tested and true SEO. You should change the titles of each page to clearly state what that page is about. If you see you have a lot of duplicate titles, this means you need to edit each page’s title tag.
These help directly with ranking. Next, you’ll want to edit the meta descriptions (the text under the title tags) to attract people to click your link over the others.
3. Learn how to use search console
SEO software can be expensive, especially for those who are just getting into SEO. The good news is that Google has its own SEO tool to help you optimize your website. You can find it here: Google Webmasters
